Facilities

ACC is designed to provide specialized software and hardware to aid in Anthropological research and analysis. To this end the ACC facilities are divided into several sections.


Geographic Information Systems: ACC has three specialized GIS workstations. These workstations are Gateway 700X @ 2.4GHz, 80GB disk, 1GB RAM, Zip Z50, DVD/CD-RW and FireWire. Each workstation is also equipt with a Wacom Cintiq 18sx tablet monitor. The GIS workstations are in the southern portion of the ACC Lab in Haskell M101 and are labeled Antigua, Belize and Cuba. Also, Belize has a LFRplus slide printer and Cuba has a SummaGrid V digitizer attached. These machines are running Windows XP Pro and have the following software packages installed: 3D Studio Max, Acrobat, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, ERMapper, Illustrator, JMP, Office, Photoshop, and X Win 32.


Multimedia Systems: ACC has five specialized multimedia workstations, Apple PowerMac G5s, of at least 2GHz 150GB disk and 2GB RAM with CD-RW/DVD-R drives. The multimedia workstations are in the northwestern portion of the ACC Lab in Haskell M101 and are labeled Austria, Belarus, Croatia, Denmark and Estonia. Also, Belarus and Croatia have Epson Perfection 2450 scanners and Austria has a Nikon 4000ED slide scanner. Belarus connected to a DV Tape deck and an analog video system. These machines are running Mac OS 10.3 and have the following software packages installed: Acrobat, DVD Studio Pro,FinalCut Pro, GoLive, iLife, Illustrator, InDesign, JMP, Motion, Office, Photoshop,Soundtrack Pro, and Toast.


Conference Room: ACC has a Dell Optiplex GX260 and an Apple PowerMc G4. The Dell has Pentium 4 @ 2GHz, 40 GB disk, 256MB RAM, and DVD/CD-RW. The Apple has G4 @ 800MHz, 80 GB disk, 640MB RAM and a CD-RW. There is an ceiling mounted LCD projector for displaying programs or DVDs from the Dell or the multiformat VCR. File Server: ACC has a file server that is accessible from any of the machines in the facility as well as over the internet. This server is a Sun SunFire 280R with eight 900MHz Sparc Ultra III CPUs, 32 GB of RAM, over 1.6TB of disk space and is running Solaris 9. Faculty are allocated 30GB and students 10GB of storage space. This server also provides shell access for users.


General Use Equipment: ACC has three workstations that are intended for general use. The machines are Dell Optiplex GX260 Pentium 4 @ 2GHz, 40 GB disk, 256MB RAM, and DVD/CD-RW. They are located in the Northeast part of the lab and are labeled Argentina, Brazil and Chile. These machines are running Windows XP Pro and have the following software packages installed: Acrobat, GoLive, Illustrator, InDesign, JMP, Office, and Photoshop.


Hardware Library: ACC has a pool of equipment that can be checked out by students and faculty for use in and outside of the lab. Individuals interested in borrowing this equipment can contact the Lab Manager. This equipment pool includes: 5 Fantom 120GB external Firewire hard drives, 1 Sony 900 TRV digital video camera, 4 Sony TRV 950 digital video cameras, 5 wireless mountable lavalier microphones and Grummond GPS units. There are also two 12" PowerBook G4s.
