Account Frequently Asked Questions

What is a ACC Account?
The Anthropology Computing Center maintains a file server: acc.spc.uchicago.edu. An account on this system entitles you to access network access of file space on the server as well as the ability to login to any of the facility's computers.
Who is eligible for an account?
To receive an Account you must have a valid CNetID (Harper account) and you must have an affiliation with the Department of Anthropology.
If you are new to the University and you have not yet obtained your University e-mail account you can do so by visiting the NSIT accounts page at http://cnet.uchicago.edu.
If you do not have a direct affiliation with the Department, you can still receive an account if a Faculty member from the Department agrees to sponsor it. Have the faculty member e-mail the System Administrator David Forero or acc-help@listhost.uchicago.edu. with the request, which should include your Harper account name and your full name.
Okay I think I am eligible how do I request an account?
Connect to https://iota.uchicago.edu/, enter your CNet ID and password. You will be notified when the account has been created (usually within one business day).
What will my username and password be when the account is created?
When your account is first created your username and password are the same as on Harper.
How did ACC get my Harper password?
We simply copy the encrypted information from the Harper user database. Your password is never visible in plain text at any time in this process.
I am having trouble with my account password, what do I do?
Password information is not synced between SSCS and NSIT beyond account creation. If you decide to change your password on an SSCS server it will not effect your CNet password, and vice versa. If you forgot your password simply connect to https://iota.uchicago.edu/, enter your CNet ID and password. You will be notified when your password is reset (usually within one business day).
